Faith, Service and Community in the Solomon Islands
On Monday 26 April, 16 91Ƭs and 5 staff departed for the Solomon Islands as part of the College’s International Missions Trip. Across 8 days, 91Ƭs served alongside the local community through school chapels, classroom activities, youth programs, church services, and outreach opportunities.
A particularly impactful experience for many 91Ƭs was visiting the Bethesda Disability Centre, where 91Ƭs witnessed the resilience, joy, and faith of individuals learning essential life skills. Students also led all aspects of the Sunday church service, including worship, testimonies, preaching, children’s ministry, and an evening encounter service.
The trip concluded with a heartfelt closing ceremony celebrating the partnership and relationships built throughout the week. For many 91Ƭs, the experience was life changing and provided valuable growth in confidence, gratitude, compassion, leadership, and faith.
Matthew D. reflected:
“This mission trip opened my eyes to parts of the world I would never normally get to see. The hospitality of the Solomon Islands people was incredible despite their limited resources. It reminded me how blessed we are and taught me to be more humble and appreciative.”
Another 91Ƭ shared:
“One part of the trip that stood out to me was visiting the Bethesda Disability Centre. Their school song reminded us that although we all have weaknesses, God is strong through them. It was such a powerful experience that challenged me to focus less on what I want and more on gratitude for what I already have.”
